"I think this is where so much of the joy comes from - having many different encounters, with new experiences, learning from my interactions whether with humans or with nature, and listening! Listening with all my senses to everything. "

Margaret Schlachter and CINDERBLOCKS
-
I would have to say Margaret Schlachter is one BADD ASS chick. She is getting her body into the ultimate working condition. Lifting cinderblocks, bouldering around the rocking climbing gym like a little monkey in the jungle, fining natural obstacles in the woods to work her body. When most people want to “get in shape” they go to a gym and do a dinky little work out on the treadmill or go to a zumba class and bounce around. Don’t get me wrong all exercise is great and I myself go to these zumba classes and bounce around.
But this is not where you will find Margaret. You will find her in the woods working her body with natural objects and obstacles, or doing 12 hour overnight hikes in the woods, testing mental and physical limits.
Yesterday I met up with Margaret to take some photos. First we went to Pine Hill Park in Rutland VT, which is by far the nicest and coolest place I have ever been to in Rutland. The trail system is amazing there! We had a lot of fun running on trails and trying to find spots for good shots. Then we went over to the Green Mountain Rock Climbing Center where Margret works out with Steve, the owner of the gym.
The workout with Steve was unlike any other workout I have ever seen. For the whole hour Margaret was in the ZONE. Pushing herself until her muscles were completely exhausted.
First Steve had Margaret boulder around the gym with out taking a break or touching the ground. This was just the beginning… Next was the bulk of the workout. There was 10 cinder blocks outside. Each one had to be raised over her head 10 times and then carried inside the building. Does not sound to hard right? I could do that I thought. But that was not all she had to do. When the blocks arrived inside Steve quickly arranged them in different positions and Margaret would have to do either sets of dips or pushups, each time getting higher off the ground. And remember this happened 10 time!!
Watching this I was totally blown away! After she brought all the blocks back out side I was sure that was the end of the work out.. but no there was more. Margaret had a little steam left in her and she did a few set of Negatives, lowering herself down slowly from the rock climbing wall. Whoooooo oooooo, that was tiring just watching.
Now I sit her writing this the next day going through all the photos we took. After I post this I am going to go out in the woods for a run. Margaret inspired me. Get out there, work your body, get mentally and psyched into it! You can do what ever you what to do you just have to put your mind to it, just like Margaret is doing.
